The History of First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church was chartered on November 8, 1885 through the signing of a simple covenant and constitution by thirteen men and women.  The church first met in a two-room building on land donated by the Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad Company for the purpose of building a church. The last surviving charter member, Mrs. E. R. Goodson, passed away on April 13, 1951.

In 1907 the church built what is now known as the old Rock building on the corner of Ave B and 5th Street. Since then, numerous buildings have been added and the Rock Building has been converted into Sunday School rooms.  The vision and the mission remain the same.

First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove is a historic Southern Baptist church with a contemporary ministry. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30, NIV)
